Sporting challenges for all students

In recognition of the fact that sport and physical education play a key role in the development of children, both are compulsory at Wesley College. Physical Education is an important part of the curriculum from Prep through to Year 10. Further information on Wesley’s extensive program of sport can be found below.

The Wesley sport program

Over 120 teams compete each week from Year 7 to Firsts level:

  • Students in Years 5 & 6 (includes Year 4 at Elsternwick) compete each Wednesday afternoon against other independent schools. Saturday sport is compulsory for Year 7 students and above
  • Years 7 and 8 compete in all three seasons, the summer season (November to April), the winter season (April to August) and the spring season (August to October)
  • Year 9 students compete in a minimum of two seasons of sport per year. The spring season is optional
  • In Years 10 and 11, students complete two seasons of cocurricular activity, one of which must be sport for the summer or winter season
  • In Year 12, all students complete a minimum of one season of sport per year, chosen from the summer or winter season

Within each season, the student will attend two training sessions per week in his/her chosen sport and compete on Saturday (usually mornings), or occasionally on Friday after school.

Students also have the opportunity to travel interstate or overseas on sporting tours.
