Curriculum

At Wesley College, the curriculum package is bursting with literacy and numeracy skills, a balanced approach to learning, a concern for the whole student, numerous electives, sixty study offerings across VCE, VET and IB Diploma for students in the senior years and the provision of opportunities for all young people to know, to do, to live with, to be within an innovative and caring environment.

With its long standing emphasis on liberalism and excellence Wesley is simply one of the best schools in the world.

  • Learning lies at the heart of our growth as humans-it is through learning that we come to make sense of the world, see patterns in our experience and create new understandings for ourselves. When our students learn how to learn, they can begin to be independent, to analyse the world around them, to create new knowledge for the future and so acquire the skills for lifelong learning.
  • A range of curriculum programs is offered, which draw on traditional disciplines of knowledge and transfer the learning into day-to-day situations, so that students may learn from the past and the present, enabling them to prepare for the future
  • We foster the development of the whole person, carefully intertwining pastoral needs within the more formal learning environment, as students strive to achieve their personal best. The development of an awareness of self and others is a fundamental value within the learning process
  • We aspire to have our students develop deep understandings of what they learn, not simply rote or surface learning. Learning to think, to evaluate, to solve-problems and to work together are all essential elements of our structured curriculum program. Our understanding of approaches to learning and learning styles, through team or collaborative work as well as individual activities, adds value to the learning opportunities within the program. The focus within all programs is to develop a range of learning strategies and to explore, as well as to respond to and develop, your own learning style. The aim is to help students learn efficiently and to develop a deeper knowledge and a more rigorous approach to learning.
  • Every student at Wesley is engaged in learning programs that stress intellectual, ethical, physical and social development. Transferring knowledge and skills from one learning area to another or from one discipline to another, is provided via integrated learning, electives and senior years specialist studies and fosters real life experiences, making the learning environment more relevant and purposeful. The focus is one of engagement with learning and improving skills and competencies, within a coherent curriculum.
