Boathouse Redevelopment Campaign

Planning is well advanced for the much anticipated redevelopment of the iconic Wesley Boathouse. Well known Wesley architect and former rower, Peter Sandow, has created a stunning contemporary facility that will serve not only our dynamic rowing program but the broader educational programs of the College.

The design features:

  • A fourth bay for boats
  •  Redevelopment of the interior of the existing building transforming it into a large, multi-functional space
  •  New change rooms, gymnasium, kitchen, boat trailer storage and sealed car parking.

Peter Sandow says:

Sport today continues to develop an increasingly broad reach into all aspects of life and learning—rowing is no different. Our Boatshed on the Yarra at Como has reached a point where it is limited as to how it can offer flexible learning alternatives and attract newcomers to the sport.

The proposed renovation and extension of the rowing shed not only creates an extension to facilities, but also provides flexibility for the rowing fraternity and the broader Wesley community. The building will be contemporarily equipped to accommodate a multi-use curriculum, suitable for meetings, briefings and continuing education, attracting on-going use as a multi-campus learning centre. The renewed building and landscaping in this riverine setting will attract greater interest and activity through the sport of rowing from all Wesley campuses.

The Wesley College Foundation is raising $2.5M for the full cost of this important project.  We are well on our way, with the capital fundraising campaign already generating close to $1.8m in donations.
