Elsternwick Young Leaders

Posted 28 June 2017 Elsternwick young leaders

Student leaders from the Elsternwick campus across Years 5, 7, 6 and 8 took part in the Halogen Youth Leadership event at the Convention Centre for young people who aspire to be great leaders.

The day provided a unique opportunity to reflect on the meaning of leadership through listening to the stories of current leaders. Students were encouraged to think about how they can have a positive impact not just in the future, but right now.

Our young leaders were able to listen to speakers such as author and illustrator Matt Cosgrove, Great Australian Spelling Bee winner Anirudh Kathirvel, and the youngest person in history to ski to the North Pole, Jade Hameister.

Our students’ reflections on the key messages and responses to the theme, Yes We Can, are genuine and insightful:

What was the key message for you from the conference?

To believe in yourself, persevere and never let fear get in the way of your dreams. Nina Fraid, Year 5

Try new things and be brave, not perfect. Together we can! Griffin, Year 6

That if you aspire you can be anything. Ishaan, Year 6

What action will you take as a result of today’s experience?

To have an environment day. Maeve, Year 6

If there is something I am scared to do I will push through and try my best. Sara Lindstrom, Year 5

I was very inspired by the writer, Matt Cosgrove. He inspired me to start writing more books and stories. Sienna, Year 5
