Wesley College Business Breakfast

Barely 12 months ago, few respectable commentators predicted that Donald Trump would be elected President of the United States, that international (nuclear) conflict could be a harsh prospect, that global economic relationships would be under challenge.

In Australia, there is constant commentary on the rising prominence of populism both globally and in Australia, with a focus on social and economic policies that are reminiscent of attitudes of past decades.

Trump tweets, Kim Jong-un threatens, populist politics displaces rational conviction leadership - these all have significant implications for Australia's political, social and economic direction.

To address these critical issues, we have gathered together three internationally acknowledged experts:

  • Professor the Honourable Gareth Evans AC QC, Chancellor, ANU and former Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • Professor Hugh White AO, Professor of Strategic Studies at ANU
  • Professor Warwick McKibbin AO, Professor of Economics at the Crawford School of Public Policy and former member of the board of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
