R. G. Menzies Scholarships

Named after one of our most famous alumni, Sir Robert Menzies, Prime Minister of Australia (1939 – 1941 and 1949 – 1966), the R. G. Menzies Scholarships were created to support children who may one day make a difference in their chosen field of endeavour.

In 1910, by gaining a scholarship, Robert Gordon Menzies embarked on his journey at Wesley College where he quickly established himself as an outstanding student, receiving awards and honours in Poetry and English Literature. His parents selected Wesley for the quality of its teaching and teachers, a tradition that is Robert Gordon Menzies 1913 well and truly maintained today.

 Please note: Students can apply for a number of different scholarships at Wesley however, you can only apply for one of either the R.G. Menzies, General Excellence or Glen Waverley Middle School Expansion Scholarship.

There is an Application Fee of AUD$100 which is waived for current Wesley students and children/grandchildren of Old Wesley Collegians.

FAQs

When and how do I apply for a R.G. Menzies Scholarship?

Please complete application forms and return by email to scholarships@wesleycollege.net prior to the closing date for consideration.

Step 1. 

Download and complete the application form and pay the AUD$100 application fee* via credit card using the payment form enclosed. (*Application fee is waived for current Wesley students and children/grandchildren of Old Collegians)

Step 2. 

Attach the following required documents relating to the applicant; most recent school report, NAPLAN report and recent photograph.

Step 3. 

Scan and email your complete application in Adobe PDF Format to scholarships@wesleycollege.net (Please note the file limit is 20MB and that ONLY the most recent School Report, NAPLAN and recent Photograph of the student are required at application stage. Extra supporting documents will not be considered)

What is the selection criteria for the R.G. Menzies Scholarship?

The R. G. Menzies Scholarships were created to support children who may one day make a difference in their chosen field of endeavour. These Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Principal to new and current (Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents) students entering Years 7 – 11 in 2020 and are assessed on the following:

  1. Proven leadership potential
  2. Strong academic achievement
  3. A commitment to social justice and community service

Typically, past recipients have been on the Principal’s Honor roll, have been school or house captains, have demonstrated their commitment to social justice and have shown strength in their academic and cocurricular studies.

Is there academic testing required for R.G Menzies Scholarships?

No, academic testing is not required for R.G. Menzies Scholarships. However, we do need a copy of the student’s most recent school report and NAPLAN.

How many R.G. Menzies Scholarships does Wesley award each year and what is each scholarship worth? 

Wesley awards a significant number of scholarships each year. The number and value of scholarships allocated is determined by the quality of applicants and the availability of places. Typically, Scholarships will be awarded as a 50% reduction of tuition fees (up until Year 12, based on an annual review).

Does Wesley award full scholarships? 

No, Wesley does not offer full scholarships. 

Can I apply for more than one scholarship type at Wesley?

Please note: Students can apply for a number of different scholarships at Wesley. However, you can only apply for one of either the R.G. Menzies, General Excellence or Glen Waverley Middle School Expansion Scholarship.

How will I know you have received my child’s application? 

You will receive an acknowledgement email from an Admissions staff member. 

When will I be advised whether my child’s scholarship application has been successful or not?

Students who are shortlisted will be required to attend an interview with the Head of Campus after the Scholarship closing date. This process can take several weeks. All applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in writing in Term 2 2019.

Can the school provide feedback on how my child can improve their application for future years?

Due to the high volume of applications, the College does not provide feedback on scholarship applications. 

If my child reaches interview stage, will we be able to have a tour of the school at interview? 

No, you will not be able to have a tour of the school at interview stage. The College strongly encourages families to attend a school tour or open day prior to the scholarship closing date. You can register for a Campus tour here.

If my child is successful, what is the process to accept a scholarship offer at Wesley?

To accept your child’s scholarship offer you will be required to pay a $1200 Confirmation Fee. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. There is an Application Fee of AUD$100 which is waived for current Wesley students and children of Old Collegians.
