Elsternwick Music Scholarships


As the result of a generous bequest, Elsternwick Music scholarships are available for NEW students who demonstrate commitment and passion for music and learning an instrument. These outstanding opportunities for talented young musicians are available at the McAthur Music School located at the Elsternwick campus of Wesley College. 

Preference is given to families who can demonstrate that they would not be able to attend Wesley College without the financial support of a Scholarship. 

The scholarship is tenable:
  • To Year 4 (for recipients starting in Prep to Year 2)
  • To Year 6 (for recipients starting in Year 2 to Year 4)

When and how do I apply for an Elsternwick Music Scholarship?

Applications are currently open for both 2019 and 2020 entry and application forms are available to print from our website. Once completed, please return by email to scholarships@wesleycollege.net 

Step 1. 

Download and complete the application form. There is no application fee for the Elsternwick Music Scholarship.

Step 2. 

Attach the following required documents relating to the applicant; most recent school report (if of Primary School age), NAPLAN (as applicable) and recent photograph

Step 3. 

Scan and email your complete application in Adobe PDF Format to scholarships@wesleycollege.net (Please note the file limit is 20MB and that ONLY the most recent School Report, AEAS test, students passport, Visa and recent Photograph of the student are required at application stage. (Extra supporting documents will not be considered).

Please note: No hard copy applications will be accepted. Also, please do not submit your application unless you have all the required supporting documents mentioned above.

What is the selection criteria for the Elsternwick Music Scholarship?

Elsternwick Music Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Principal to new (Australian Citizen/ Permanent Resident) students and are assessed on the following:

  • Candidates need to display evidence of music skill or ability
  • A commitment to developing potential for music ability
  • Enjoyment of and appreciation for music
  • Interview with the Head of Campus
  • An audition with the Head of Music and accompanying music teacher which includes an interview and presentation or performance in area of music potential (singing, voice, playing of instrument)
How much does it cost to apply for an Elsternwick Music Scholarship?

There is no application fee. 

How many Elsternwick Music Scholarships does Wesley award each year and what is each scholarship worth? 

Wesley awards a significant number of scholarships each year.  The number and value of scholarships allocated is determined by the quality of applicants and the availability of places. Typically, scholarships will be awarded as a 50% reduction of tuition fees.

Does Wesley award full scholarships? 

No, Wesley does not offer full scholarships.

Is there an interview or audition required for the Elsternwick Music Scholarship?

Yes. Candidates will be required to:
  • Attend an interview with the Head of Campus- Elsternwick.
  • Attend an audition with the Head of Music and accompanying music teacher which includes an interview and presentation or performance in area of music potential (singing, voice, playing of instrument). 

What is involved in the music audition for the Elsternwick Music Scholarship?

The candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their ability to perform:

  1. Either sing two contrasting songs or play two contrasting pieces on their instrument/s. Students will need to bring music with them, including an accompaniment as appropriate for the music. 

The candidates should demonstrate their musicianship:

  1. Identify pitch and rhythm in aural tests at an appropriate level.  
  2. Sight-read music of an appropriate level where applicable.
What is the process and when will I be advised whether my child has been successful?

Once the written application has been submitted and if successful in attaining an interview, the family will be contacted within two weeks of submission. 

If my child is successful, what is the process to accept a scholarship offer at Wesley?

To accept your child’s scholarship offer you will be required to pay a $1200 Confirmation Fee. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

How will I know you have received my child’s application? 

You will receive an acknowledgement email from an Admissions staff member. 

Is there academic testing required for Elsternwick Music Scholarships?

Academic testing is not required. The success of attaining an Elsternwick Music Scholarship is based on application with supporting documentation, interview with Head of Campus and Head of Junior School and audition. 

Can I apply for more than one scholarship type at Wesley?

Yes, you can apply for several different scholarships at Wesley. However, if you apply for the General Excellence Scholarship, you cannot apply for a Middle School Expansion Scholarship or R.G. Menzies Scholarship.
